Check your camera before a call
A video call app only shows whether a picture appears. This webcam test also shows the camera's resolution and frame rate, and whether your room is too dark. The picture stays on your device and is never recorded.

Webcam test FAQ
How do I test my webcam?
Open this page and allow the camera when your browser asks. If your picture appears, the camera works, and the test shows its resolution and frame rate.
Why is my webcam not working?
Most often another app, such as a video call, is using the camera, or the browser has no permission. Close the other app, allow the camera in the address bar and reload.
Why is my camera showing a black screen?
Many laptops have a privacy shutter or a key that turns the camera off. If the test says the picture is black, open the shutter or press the key.
What resolution is my webcam?
The test shows it once the camera is on. Most laptop webcams send 720p or 1080p.
What is a good frame rate for a webcam?
30 frames a second looks smooth on a video call. Many webcams drop to 15 in a dim room, so more light helps.
Can I test my phone camera?
Yes. Open the page in Safari or Chrome on iPhone or Android, and pick the front or the back camera.
Is the webcam test private?
Yes. The test runs in your browser. Nothing is recorded or uploaded, and the camera turns off when you leave the page.
